About the Programme

Obtaining a residence permit in France opens the way to the subsequent acquisition of citizenship of that country. The right to a residence permit is available to foreign nationals who have lawful grounds for stay, such as employment, studies, family reunification, or entrepreneurial activity.
A resident is entitled to reside in France and, depending on the category of residence permit, to access the social security system, education, and healthcare. A residence permit also provides freedom of movement within the Schengen Area. After 5 years of continuous and lawful residence in the country, one may apply for French citizenship, provided that proficiency in the French language at the required level is confirmed.

Rights and Opportunities with a French Passport

Global mobility

The French passport ranks 3rd in the world and provides visa-free entry to 174 countries worldwide, including the countries of the Schengen Area, the United Kingdom, the United States (ETA), Canada (ETA), Japan, and Australia.

Freedom of choice

Citizens of the French Republic are entitled to reside freely, work, and receive education in any of the 27 Member States of the European Union without the need to obtain visas or work permits. Only simple registration at the place of stay is required.

Quality education

Citizens of the French Republic and their children may receive education at any higher education institution in the EU at preferential resident rates and may apply for state grants and scholarships from French and pan-European educational funds.

Healthcare

The French healthcare system is recognised as one of the best in the world. Citizens are entitled to high-quality medical care not only in the French Republic, but also in all Member States of the European Union under the single European Health Insurance Card.

State support

France provides its citizens with comprehensive social protection: pension payments, unemployment benefits, support for families with children, housing and transport benefits within the framework of the developed French social security system and pan-European social support programmes.

Employment

A French passport provides unrestricted access to the European labour market. Employers in the European Union consider you on an equal footing with local candidates without additional bureaucratic procedures, ensuring full labour rights within the single European employment market.

Business development

Entrepreneurs holding French citizenship gain access to the integrated EU market of 450 million consumers, European grants and subsidies, favourable lending conditions, and tax optimisation opportunities within the framework of French legislation and pan-European business support programmes.

Citizenship for future generations and a «safe haven»

French citizenship is inherited by your children and grandchildren, guaranteeing them stable prospects and broad opportunities in a united Europe, as well as the right to leave their home country promptly in the event of a crisis.

Visa-Free Destinations with a French Passport

Obtaining French citizenship

A French passport entitles its holder to visit 174 countries without obtaining a visa in advance.

Visa Free (visa-free regime) – 123 countries

A French passport entitles its holder to cross the borders of European Union countries without visas, as well as to conduct business, reside permanently, and study in any of the Member States of the Union.

27 European Union countries (Austria, Denmark, France, Germany, Luxembourg  and other).

Visa on arrival – 42 countries

A French passport entitles its holder to visit more than 40 countries without obtaining a visa at a consulate or online; this may be done upon arrival at the destination.

ETA (electronic travel authorisation) – 9 countries

With a French passport, one may cross the borders of a number of countries without visiting a consulate or visa centre; the authorisation may be obtained online, which takes minimal time.

French nationals enjoy a clear advantage over residents of post-Soviet countries when obtaining U.S. visas and entering Canada. For example, the refusal rate for U.S. visas for French nationals is 10.1%, which is significantly lower than the 35-40% average refusal rate for CIS countries. For travel to Canada, French nationals do not require a visa; an electronic travel authorisation (eTA) is sufficient, whereas nationals of CIS countries must apply for visas, with overall refusal rates of up to 50-60%.

We Guide You Through Every Stage

1 stage

Your situation is analysed for compliance with the key criteria, as well as your family lineage, in order to select the optimal immigration strategy. Thereafter, a company representative enters into a cooperation agreement with you setting out the parties' obligations and a fixed service fee.

2 stage

A complete set of documents is compiled in accordance with the authorities' requirements. The package includes translations certified by a certified translator, legalisation or apostille affixing on documents of foreign origin, as well as obtaining up-to-date certificates (of no criminal record, civil status, and others).

3 stage

The dossier is submitted via the official ANEF platform upon payment of a state fee of EUR 55, after which the review process begins. FranceConnect credentials or the visa/residence permit number are used to access the system. The system automatically notifies the applicant of each stage of the review by email and makes it possible to track the status through an interactive timeline.

4 stage

If the decision is favourable, a naturalisation decree is published in the official journal. The standard processing period is up to 18 months, which is reduced to 12 months for persons residing in France for more than 10 years. In exceptional cases, the period may be extended by a further 3 months with mandatory justification.

5 stage

Within 6 months, the applicant receives a certificate of citizenship. If the applicant has unmarried minor children, they also automatically acquire French citizenship provided that they live together with the applicant.

6 stage

The company's lawyers submit the applicant's documents for a French passport and identity card at the town hall of the place of residence. After obtaining citizenship, the client must apply to the Central Civil Status Service for the issuance of additional documents, if necessary.

I was fortunate to choose Yurpass. The company's specialists helped me obtain a residence permit in France, after which I moved to Lyon and found employment at a local start-up. The lawyers accompanied me throughout the entire process: they assisted with renewing my residence permit, and when I had fulfilled all the requirements, they prepared the documents and filed the citizenship application. The quality of work is excellent; everything was conscientious and transparent in terms of payment.

As a person accustomed to planning every step, I considered the process of obtaining French citizenship confusing and complicated. The company not only took over all the paperwork, but also provided support at every stage, explaining all details thoroughly and finding solutions for non-standard situations. Thanks to this, I was able to go through the entire naturalisation procedure calmly and focus on the development of my business rather than bureaucracy.

I had long been thinking about moving to France, but I did not want to deal with the intricacies of legalisation on my own. Yurpass specialists selected the optimal path for my circumstances. As a result, I obtained a residence permit, then successfully renewed it, and after the expiry of the required period they helped me prepare and file the dossier for citizenship. The team works in a coordinated manner and takes all nuances into account. I recommend them.
